Soma, Universe 217 and Lucky Funeral
live in WEIMAR
(germany)

an incredible evening of phantastic music, big surprises,
unbelievable people, strange houses, friends, phantastic music and phantastic music

so we (stephanie and i) drove along to WEIMAR on this saturday, comfortably slow-ridin'...
350 km from door to door - enterin' our lodging (a hostel) at 3.30 pm.
yes...this is alternative lodging...uargh..
ok, could be worse.
then first contact with WEIMAR-city (pre-checkin', where the venue will be)
by the way: a very nice city, great architecture, loads of historical stuff and there is also an undescribably wonderful old cemetary...WOW
so we came to the street with the venue; some strange figures movin up and down in front of the house...
quite invitingly.

so i asked the crowd if there are any greece people out there - and bingo...
the good guys of LUCKY FUNERAL!!!
after a big hello - it was just as if i knew these lads for years -
and stuff (lots of stuff), the man with the key to the venue arrived
and they started working and we went 'home'.
after a great lunch and a little rest we entered the club.
had a great time with the people of UNIVERSE 217 and LUCKY FUNERAL,
they are so warm-hearted and lovely persons, this is the stuff friends are made of!

prompt, with a delay of 50 minutes, the show started...
my first impression when looking at the stage was - oh, White Stripes...?
but...NO, NO, NO - NEVER
two young folks out of DRESDEN,
male - guitar, female - drums,
named SODA (keep this in mind)
blew us away !!!
precise and cool in-the-face-drumming and a
(downtuned) guitar oozin' out sludgy and doomish
riffs, feedback, tuning, next attack - FUCKIN' GREAT
half an hour of pure musical entertainment
big respect to this upcoming killer-machine, my live-surprise of the year

after a short break, UNIVERSE 217 entered the stage
and showed me a new dimension....
as i told their vocalist Tanja, if someome asks me
about the kind/style of music, this band is doin'...i can not tell...
they are, or, have created, a very unique and special, very own universe of sound,
bass, guitar and drums (great musicians with a high technical level)
are building up a platform for the incredible voice of Tanja.
her vocals are embracing the music to unite it all to one.
her outstanding vocal performance will tear ya down,
there are only two comparable vocalists i have in mind:
Diamanda Galas
(with less screaming and more melody) and the VERY early
Sinnead O'Connor (does anybody remember 'The Lion And The Cobra')
a great performance of this exceptional remarkable band.

and then, finally LUCKY FUNERAL...

what a hell of a performance, raw power at it's best
from the first moment, they had entered the stage,
the audience was on their side!
the band was playin' a phantasic set and MIKE (vox) turned into an
animal within seconds.
'My Dealer Is The Best', 'Stay Away' and 'Drunken Crocodile',
we got what we needed!!!
all these motherfuckers are brilliant musicians, every break,
every riff to the point and - as i saw - they had a lot of fun on stage.
LIZARD (bass) acts like a maniac and it looks like he will punish
the old 4-strings for something very bad...,
LOUKAS (guitar) is a bit more cool, firein' out these massive riffs - great guitar work YES,
and PEPPER (a.k.a. 'The Bank') tried to destroy the drum-kit!!!
and extraordinaire drummer, precise like a machine,
a phantastic feeling for his drumming,
this is a rare species...,
and MIKE (vox) rules the stage, and shouts, screams, growls
and sings your brain out.
knowing how to handle an audience, he's the ruler of the wasteland...

to see these guys on stage is a great experience, real music, real cool people,
these boys deserve the stoner-doom-sludge crown.

thank you, friends.

by the way: all bands had a very good sound  - respect to the man on the buttons!

this was an incredible evening of phantastic music, big surprises,
unbelievable people, strange houses, friends, phantastic music and phantastic music.
